FireAlpaca by KaceyMeg FireAlpaca by KaceyMeg
I don't actually use this program! I just gave it a test run. Any questions asked will be left unanswered as I just don't know the answer! My apoloigies you will have to find a tutorial/figure it out on your own

HEY SO I saw a new program floating around and thought I'd give it a test run.
FIRE ALPACA
Its a free image editing program that acts similar to SAI.

Line Smoothing much like the stabiliser in SAI. For those who would like smoother lines but havenít quite got a steady enough hand

Layer modes and opacity like Photoshop and SAI. Not quite as much options as PS but enough for those who enjoy multiply shading (like myself hahaha) and could be used for applying textures

Clipping groups and Transparency lock (called clipping and protect alpha) another like PS and SAI. I use these when blocking in colours and shading. One locks the alpha as it says, so you only can colour on the pixels youíve already drawn. The other does the same without editing the previous layer in any way. (wow me good at explaining)

PSD compatible wow how awesome is this, like SAI you can save your file as a PSD! For those who like to draw in one program then edit it, texture it, add text to it etc in photoshop (also something I do)

Brush options I havenít tested any others. The pen tool is quite like SAIís as it is smooth and crisp. However the pressure sensitivity is a little odd? Itís sensitive to change, but the pixels donít reach 0 quite as smooth.. if that makes sense? Itís more like photoshops size change than SAIs.

Itís rather easy to use!

Perfect for those of you who have MACs and want something similar to SAI (or just a nice easy art program), those who donít like the pirate programs but canít afford any and just people who like free stuff WHO DOESNíT LIKE FREE STUFF.

ALSO THE NAME IS REALLY CUTE HAHAHA

This is nice!
I have a question: how do you have the point pressure? My FireAlpaca doesn't allow me to do that, so when I want to have "smoother/flowing" lines, I have to erase the tips and do it manually.. ???

Go to file, environment setting, brush coordinate, use tablet coordinate. Let me know if it doesn't say that, since I use the mac one and it may be different on a windows.

(I have Windows 8) Ok, thanks! I've tried it, but when I compared the tablet coordinated line with the mouse coordinated line.. it doesn't show much difference..

Hmm, maybe your tablet isn't so great.. Just play around and see if it improves.

Ohh, I thought you did.. Pressure only works with tablets. Computer mice don't have the programming to sense pressure, while tablets do. If you don't have one, then you need to erase the points to your liking. Sorry. Sweating a little...

I know I'm not the poster of this picture, but I've been using FireAlpaca for nearly a year and I think I can help you out c:

Clipping sets a clipping mask, so you can't draw outside of the shape of the bottom layer. It's very useful for shading.  Anything you draw above any transparent parts of the layer below the clipping group will not show up unless you take the clipping mask off of that layer.
Transparency lock is similar to a clipping mask, except it's used on the layer the shape is on. It won't let you draw on any transparent parts of the layer.

Also, you can search Google and deviantArt for linearts. Personally, I prefer transparent ones, but to each their own. x3

Any other questions? c:

Do you know how to color different parts of your lineart a different color other than redrawing the line?

Yup! Go to the layer of your lineart, click "Protect Alpha", and then choosy the color and color over it with a pen c:

This really q!!

oMF YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU HAVE HELPED ME. I actually cried bc I was trying to get the black lines to change to the color lines are whatever (like how people have the lines darker than the color of the design) and everytime I used the clipping thing, I couldnt color it. I turned a simple chibi into something mUCH MUCH more than a chibi. I got so frustrated that I actually cried cx
FINALLY I just looked it up and this was the second link. I clicked it, and saw the clipping sign thingy  (the arrow pointing down)  and under the two arrows, there wasn't one. I didn't understand how you did that.. And I still k inda don't haha. But, bc of the description , I looked at the 'merge layers'. I clicked that. I cried again. That's how you do it.... I wish I knew that a few years ago ! cx

Thank you so much!!! ;u;

you save the psd file as an 'all files' in your pictures, then you open it on firealpaca. hope this helps.

If you don't have a tablet while you use FireAlpace, it won't produce the same lines.
And it won't auto-correct the lines you've already drawn, you will have to re-draw them ^^

Hope that helped! :D

How do you protect the lines on FA?
Like, protect them so if you go into a new layer and start coloring, the lines don't get covered by the new color. xc

change the coloring layer to ''multiply''. Itll only really work if the lineart is a dark color.

If the preferred image is in your browser, right click and select "Copy Image"
Go to firealpaca and press CMD + V on your keyboard, or CTRL + V if you use Windows.

Select the layer of your lineart and select "Protect Alpha". Then create a new layer on top of it, select "Clipping" and color over it. That's how I do it.
